How we measure this

What we ask, where the questions come from, and what the numbers can and cannot tell you.

The ranking is measured on 12 questions per category, and none of them names a brand. A brand counts as present in an answer when one of its names appears in the text.

Each of those 12 starts from a real question, either a phrase people search or a public forum post, and we rewrite it into a plain question. Wherever we publish a question, its original wording appears beside it. The set is frozen before any answer is collected, and when the set changes, as it did this edition, we drop the comparison with the previous edition.

Why the rest stays private

A brand that knows the exact wording can write a page against it, which moves the score without moving the brand’s standing.

What the numbers are, and aren’t

  • Each edition is one dated run, not a rolling average.
  • Share is averaged across the five AI tools, not pooled across answers.
  • Treat a few points between neighbouring brands as a tie.
  • Rankings measure how often AI names a brand. They are not endorsements by daydream.
  • 8 further questions name competitors directly. We wrote those rather than mining them, so they carry no source, and they feed the citation trail, which is measured over every answer, and not the ranking.

The questions, category by category

Three of each category’s twelve, which is 25% of the questions its ranking comes from. On 11 of the 18 the three span more than one source or shape; on the other 7 every question in the set has the same source and the same shape, so the three do too and there was no variety to sample.
